Vocology is less represented in the choral world than in most other vocal disciplines. When we were offered a chance to speak at ACDA East in Boston, both on a voice science pane and on a presentation about extended techniques in conjunction with See-A-Dot Music, we were delighted. Although many choral directors are less versed in voice science, they are also hungry for the information. Training groups of people to sing is, well, really difficult. Vocology offers clear information that singers can immediately utilize, rely on for measurable results, and can harness for their own needs. It provides answers to many of the choral world's image-heavy instructions that all too often leave singers confused and feeling alone.
Further, choral directors influence more singers that any other group of vocal professionals, so their influence is vast. We found that our presentations at ACDA were met with support, impressive questions, and loads of interest. The choral world is more than ready for a vocology revolution.
